Best Dressed Guest

My summer dress picks for all the weddings on your social calendar!

I am so thrilled to attend my dear friend's wedding at the end of July. She has found her match, and I couldn't be happier to see her tie the knot.

Of course after receiving the invite I immediately started hunting something to wear. It's a church wedding late in the afternoon at 5 O'Clock followed by a cocktail hour and dinner and dancing into the evening. So I wanted something dressy, flirty, and cocktail appropriate.

Always take your cue from the level of formality presented by the invitations to a wedding in deciding what to wear. Not sure what I mean or how to translate that, read my full post on wedding guest attire 101 here.

Teri Jon black off the shoulder gown hung on screen - wedding guest dress

After doing a bit of online shopping, I discovered the fabric confections of Teri Jon by Rickie Freeman, and fell in love with the tailoring, classic silhouettes, and luxe fabrics. Most of the gowns were outside of my budget, but with a bit of hunting I found numerous reduced dresses at Rue La La, Gilt, and Shop Premium Outlets.

So remember if you find a designer you love whose creations are a bit too dear, hunt sites like these for major steals!

I ordered the classic black cocktail dress pictured above and a stunning peacock off the shoulder dress to try on at home. The peacock dress felt a bit too restrictive and didn't fit quite right, while the black number perfectly hugs my curvy form and had a lovely twirly skirt. And it is so important to be able to twirl at a wedding, don't you think?

Now I'm not usually one for black at a wedding. My mama taught me right! But...this dress is clearly festive and party attire, so I feel confident it won't be mistaken for mourning drab.

Johnny Was silk floral caftan for wedding guest dress, hung on green wicker screen

In my online hunt to be the best dressed guest, I also stumbled across this gorgeous silk caftan from Johnny Was. I couldn't get those colorful florals out of my head after seeing it, so I gave in and ordered this second choice for the wedding. The right caftan can be dressed up or down, and this one certainly lends itself to a celebration with some gold jewelry and colorful heels.

What do you think? Which dress should I don for the wedding?

Now let's find a wedding guest dress for you! I came across so many beautiful creations while online shopping, I wanted to share them with you in case you are on the hunt to be the best dressed guest too!

I tried to meet a variety of budgets and wedding styles in my picks below. Just click on a picture to shop the dress.

I love your summer dress picks! but if I would have to go for one of it, i would choose the classic cocktail black dress.
    It looks classy and chic.
