I’m Katherine, and I’m just delighted you’ve stopped by!
I started Pender & Peony, a Southern blog, in 2014 as a creative outlet to explore my passion for writing, home decorating, life in the South, and entertaining. It has grown over the years to now include a specially curated shop for vintage and antique decor. I want P&P to be your source for grandmillennial style and gracious living!
I think gumption, charm & grace are 3 of the most important characteristics in life. It takes gumption to accomplish your goals and stand tall in your confidence. It takes charm to laugh at yourself and appreciate the good things in life. And well, grace? Grace is what get us through everyday if we let it!
On P&P, I offer advice on decorating and entertaining with that special Southern flair and try to provide you with useful tips and DIYs to help you achieve a charming and classic home. My background in the art museum world and auction industry has given me a wealth of knowledge about history and the decorative arts, which I use to curate a chic selection of vintage and antique decor for you here in the curio shop and on my Instagram page via weekly flash sales.
I hope you will join me as I strive to live graciously and with charm!
I am a Southerner.
I grew up under a Carolina sky surrounded by the Appalachian Mountains.
I remember running barefoot through the garden with hands and dress stained purple from blackberry picking.
I’ve attended family reunions so big that you could not remember how the person hugging you was related — you just accepted that they were.
I believe pearls are for every day.
I am a feminist.
For four years I empowered my mind with 700 other women behind the red brick wall.
I wrote a master’s thesis when it was not required.
I reject the patriarchy, but don’t deny my femininity.
I’ve biked the sandy paths of Nantucket and climbed all 528 steps of St. Paul’s Cathedral.
If I get lost in the bowels of the Metropolitan Museum, just leave me there.
I am a Modern Southern Woman.
My grandmother taught me the value of hospitality, and I’ll never forget the taste of her biscuits.
I cannot resist rockin’ on the front porch with my mother for a good gossip, but heaven is reading in the shade of a sentient tree.
I work with intention and strive for substance even in the gilded cacophony of life.
These are the roots of my perspective.
