Transition Summer Staples to Fall

Looking for fall transition outfits? I’m sharing easy and affordable style tricks to transition summer staples to fall! Get more wear out of your favorite little white dress, summer shorts, and palazzo pants!

In early September, the weather down here in the South is still quite sweltering! If you are lucky enough to experience cool crisp mornings already, well you’re lucky enough.

For the rest of us, we need easy and affordable ways to transition summer staples to fall that way we get a bit more use out of our favorite summer styles and don’t melt into little pools of goodness in wool and boots before October! With that in mind, I’m sharing 3 summer to fall transition outfits that re-use summer staples in this post.

Take this Summer Staple to Fall: The Little White Dress

I don’t know about you, but I’m wearing white after labor day! I plan to rock this white eyelet dress from 1901 well into fall with a denim jacket and loafers. Really that is all you need to transition a little white dress or any summer dress for that matter into fall – a great denim jacket!

I bought this one from J.Crew years and years ago, and it has been such a good investment. I prefer a classic denim look in a dark wash with a bit of stretch to the material, so that it fits comfortably.

Another key to transition this summer staple to fall is the shoes. For a more autumn appropriate look, don loafers or cute ballet flats not something with open toes.

Take this Summer Staple to Fall: The Floral Palazzo Pant

One of my summer favorites are light weight palazzo pants! I love the fun fabrics and cooling effect of the easy breezy style. Transition these for fall by using an autumn color palette. Usually, with these floral palazzos I would wear bright orange or white, but wearing a garnet blouse on top makes the outfit feel more fall. P.S. I am loving garnet for autumn…more of that later.

So this style trick to transition summer staples to fall is all about keeping the light weight fabrics of summer but updating the color palette to burnt umbers, chocolatey browns, beautiful garnets, and deep olives!

Take this Summer Staple to Fall: The Cute Shorts

Wear a cute pair of shorts into fall with the right pairing: a cable knit sweater and boots! Choose a cable knit in cotton or light weight merino and you won’t over-heat. I love pairing shorts and mini skirts with cowboy boots for a chic western look, but you could make this look work with the right style of booties, if country doesn’t do it for you.

This look is perfect for apple picking, which I plan on doing more of this fall!
