In the dining room this year, I wanted to play with the juxtaposition of classic Christmas decor like Spode's Christmas tree pattern and a traditional plaid with a kitschy vintage find -- beaded fruit. Could I take this 60's-70's craft project and make it elegant?

I think I did!

I stumbled upon several bowls of vintage beaded fruit on our antiquing trip north in September (read about it here), and I was totally enchanted by the vibrant colors, delicate beading, and playful forms. I mean...who doesn't love a bedazzled banana?

At the time I wasn't really sure how I was going to use it, but once I unwrapped it at home and saw it next to this plaid ribbon I knew it would be a really fun addition to my Christmas decor in the dining room. It just feels so charmingly apropos to have a tree all decked out in beautiful fruit in the space where we dine. It's kitschy and whimsical in the best way!

On the Christmas Table

For the table I started with a beautifully simple floral topper from April Cornell in green and white then used a compote filled with vintage beaded fruit for the centerpiece. Each place setting has a Hester & Cook amaryllis placemat, a Royal Norfolk red dinner plate, and a Spode Christmas tree salad plate. The gorgeous emerald green goblets from Carlo Moretti add to the vibrancy.

The beaded fruit really pops against all the elegant green and white, while the Spode plates help it feel very Christmas-ey!

Because I kept the holiday tablescape relatively clean and simple, I went a bit more dramatic with the chandelier decoration, adding beautiful streaming red velvet ribbons and a fun cedar kissing ball.

Bow made of plaid and red velvet ribbons

I love to decorate my corner hutch for Christmas! This year I used a 3 foot section of pine and holly garland across the top and tied a big plaid and red velvet bow for one end with streamers running through the garland.

On the shelves, I've displayed a collection of Spode's Christmas tree dishes and serving pieces -- available here and here in the Curio Shop! Two white and gilt Limoges tureens and Carlo Moretti goblets complete the look, while scattered gold laurel leaves, copper cookie cutters, and some vintage baubles add a festive touch.

A Christmas tree in the dining room makes for such a merry feature if you have room. I placed a small one on a round table in the corner and decorated it in plaid ribbon, red velvet bows, copper cookie cutters, and vintage beaded fruit. Gold holly and laurel leaves add some glitz and texture.

It turned out so festive and merry - don't you think?

I hope you enjoyed exploring my kitschy take on a fruity Christmas with vintage beaded fruit, classic plaid, and Spode's Christmas tree dishes. I think I achieved an elegant blend of whimsy, tradition, and charm.
