Finishing Our Master Bedroom Decor

Explore our plans to finish our blue and green master bedroom decor!

I am determined to complete at least one decorating project this year at my house! Up to bat: our master bedroom! This room is so close to being finished. I just need to pull together all the design elements and find a few key pieces.

Even though I’ve had a clear vision for this bedroom from the start (original mood board here), once I decided against the Farr pattern, I was slowed down trying to find the perfect vintage blue and green floral chintz. The other struggle has been sourcing vintage/antique nightstands. An estate sale curtain find in 2023 mostly solved the floral issue, but this fabric created another dilemma.

What to buy at estate sales - custom drapes

The pattern is so bold and unique it has been a challenge to find the right bedding and pillows to pair with it. The pattern is a mix between Lee Jofa’s Althea and Waverly’s Pleasant Valley, but I have not been able to identify it. Here are the curtains hung up in the room with bamboo shades. I love the mix of colors and the dark emerald green just pops so perfectly against the pale blue walls (Tradewind Blue, SW).

Master bedroom headboard upholstered in a green and tan silk stripe

The chintz pairs well with another estate sale find in this room: our headboard. Done in a pale green and tan stripe silk it is an elegant upholstered piece. Although the stripe is subtle, it is strong enough that other striped bedding does not look good, so that rules out a lot of non-floral options for coverlets, quilts, etc. When you decorate for a collected look and slowly piece together a room, these little hang-ups can really stymie your progress. Even though I’ve had these two main elements decided for the past two years, I couldn’t give up the idea of patterned bedding, and I couldn’t find something that coordinated perfectly.

Finally, I’ve decided to go with a solid ivory duvet that has a beautiful texture to keep things interesting but not detract from the curtains. Then I am going to bring in some more pattern with accent pillows. Just what fabric won the pattern play race? Soane’s scrolling fern silhouette in chestnut! I really love the movement of the pattern and how elegant it feels. The warm brown brings out those tones in the chintz curtains perfectly. It is definitely a pricey choice, so I will use it very sparingly on just two accent pillows.

Here’s my latest design boards for the master bedroom decor:

Version 1

I am still debating the fabric for the secondary accent euro pillows. I can’t decide if I want to go soft and subtle with a small ditzy floral like in version one or go bolder with a more colorful option like the marbled pattern in version two. What would you pick?

Version 2

The last major hold-up is the nightstands. I really tried to source a pair of vintage/antique ones in a dark wood tone with functional shelving and drawers, but it’s been really hard to find ones the right size. I’ve also lost several great pairs to other bidders at auction…ugh! In efforts to get this room finished, I’m “settling” for these antique white step back shelves. They are simple and pretty, but most importantly will function like I need. I will probably change the hardware to a brass medallion pull like this or this.
