On the Hunt: Denim to Pair with Tall Boots
A try on haul of skinny or slim leg jeans, reviewing 5 different styles to pair with tall boots.

Did you know...skinny jeans are on their way out? I'm not too upset about this style expiration. Personally, I love a straight leg or boot cut, but I need a pair of denim that wears well tucked into tall boots. My old skinny jeans from Lands' End have worn holes in a very scandalous area that us curvy girls with shapely gams often experience. Worst of all Lands' End stopped making the style I loved. Boohoohoo...
Online I went to hunt out the perfect denim to wear with riding boots, which meant I had to order a bunch of styles and sizes for a major try-on haul. In so many ways, it is much more pleasant to try on jeans at home in front of your own mirror with your own flattering lights, but in other ways the returns and shipping process is such a hassle.
Hopefully, I can save you from a bit of that hassle if you too are on the hunt for skinny denim! Below are my thoughts on the skinny and slim leg jeans I ordered.
Of note...I'm a curvy size 12 or 14 and 5'7". My torso is on the shorter side, I can often wear petite tops length-wise.
The sweater I'm wearing is from Lands' End (size down), the Mary Janes are Birdies, and the boots are Ariat.

NYDJ’s Waist-Match™ jeans conform to you with an elastic waistband that molds to your waist for an extra-comfortable more precise fit. The Sheri slim is between skinny and straight and are curve-hugging.
I already own 3 pairs of these waist-match jeans in the Marilyn straight leg and kick flare cuts. I love them! So I knew I needed to try the Sheri slim for tall boots, and of course they were one of my favorites. For boots, they are not as narrow at the ankle as I would like, but they work.

Form fitting skinny jean with good deal of stretch. No baggy knees or saggy waistband.
I hoped these would replace my old favorites, but alas they are cut very different. I liked the rich blue hue of these jeans and the amount of stretch, but the high rise didn't hit me right and I disliked the back pockets on my rounder figure. Felt fine on my calves unlike some skinny jeans that are too tight.

Unreal comfort from first try-on to wear after wear. Constructed with a high waist and invisible built-in stretch. 00 - 40 and 4 different lengths
I almost kept these jeans. The fit was good, and the fabric is so soft and stretchy it is more like wearing leggings, but there was enough thickness I didn't feel self conscious. So what was the problem? The front pockets extend really far down your thigh and you can see the ridge. Ugh! I considered having a tailor alter them, but ultimately decided to just return.

These ankle-length slim straight-leg jeans feature shape-retaining Instasculpt stretch denim that creates the perfect fit.
These were the splurge jeans I ordered to try on. I already own a pair of DL1961s in the Patti style and love them, but I bought them on major sale. The fabric and fit of this pair was awesome, but the waist band was just a little too snug. In the end, I couldn't rationalize the hit to my wallet. Watching for a pair on sale though!

Shaping darts at the back and yoke give curve-hugging appeal to these stretchy high-waist jeans.
Universal Standard recommends these jeans for those with a 10" waist-to-hip difference. I am right at that cusp, so thought I would try them. They were too big on me in terms of crotch rise. I'm tempted to try a size down to see if that helps. If you are looking for a classic slim leg in a thicker fabric and you have that 10" waist-to-hip difference try these!

I also ordered a pair of skinny jeans from Quince that were on backorder. They didn't arrive for this try-on haul and photo session, but I have since received them and they are a winner! I'm wearing them in my posts about Jolly Blossoms Christmas decor in my living room.
They are a lovely dark blue wash with more uniform color, which I really like. The fit is snug but comfortable and true to size. They are high rise, but not above my belly button. You cannot beat the price for quality either at $50! I'm wearing the 28" length, which hits right at my ankle.
