On the First Day of Christmas…
A look at my "12 Days of Christmas" carol decor in the living room!
My true love gave to me a partridge in a pear tree...
I know some of you find this Christmas carol nothing but annoying and far too ridiculous (ahem my husband), but I love it! I look forward to hearing it every year when the Christmas music starts blaring.
I think it is enchanting and playful. I love to sing it. I love all the silly versions. Thank you Straight No Chaser! I even love to use it in my Christmas decor!
One year it became a theme on my Christmas tree! See here.
"The Twelve Days of Christmas" was a memory and forfeits game that originated in 1780 for children. The carol as we know it today was set down by English composer Frederic Austin in 1909. This version introduced the five golden riiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnggggggssssss. More on the history of the song here.
"The Twelve Days of Christmas" Themed Decor
This year I couldn't resist incorporating a few playful nods to the tune in my living room, which is decorated in red, pink, gingham, magnolia, and florals. I called the look Jolly Blossoms, and you can explore my tree in this post and my mantel garland here.
Over on the wall opposite my fireplace above our two comfy chairs where we enjoy our weekend coffees I strung this pretty banner with all the gifts charmingly depicted. Above the camellia prints I hung a magnolia garland and bow.

Such a festive touch for this space! I simply used painter's tape to secure the banner string to the back of the frames and certain pieces onto the plexi fronts. The magnolia garland is a faux piece I've had for years, and unfortunately they don't make this style anymore, but this one looks really good.

A Partridge & A Swan Under the Tree
Under the Christmas tree I'm continuing the theme with gift tags. Each tag has one of the 12 gifts illustrated. Sabrina the swan is gracefully presiding over all, holding the wrapping paper.
I like to set up a little gift wrapping station in the weeks leading up to Christmas under the tree that way I can wrap gifts as I go and do it enjoying the twinkle lights. I'll be sharing my gift wrapping edit soon! But in the meantime here's what I used:
Red Floral Paper / White and Gold Tree Paper / 1.5" Red Velvet Ribbon / Green Velvet Ribbon / Green Satin Ribbon / Similar Red Embossed paper / 12 Days Tags

On the Sideboard
I added just a hint of this Christmas carol on my sideboard with these lovely vintage decoupage ornaments in my Rose Medallion bowl. I think this is such a fun way to create a bold but economical display in your punch bowl: flowers spilling out on one side and ornaments piled high on the other!
A charming Christmas village and pale green mercury trees (similar here) finish out the decor.
