An Elf Approved Preppy Chinoiserie Christmas

Deck the halls this holiday in a preppy Chinoiserie Christmas style with loads of plaid decor, blue and white porcelain, pops of red, and merry reindeer!

Papa Elf: And where do the reindeer get their magic from?

Buddy: Christmas spirit. Everybody knows that.

I love this line from Elf! If I could pick Christmas decor that embodies Christmas spirit and could empower the reindeer to fly...this preppy Christmas look with Chinoiserie touches would be it! This traditional Christmas style so festive and fun. From the happy blue and white gingham ribbon to the prancing reindeer, it could not feel more merry!

Wouldn't you agree?

Much of the Christmas decor I feature in this post is available in the Preppy Chinoiserie Christmas Collection. You can shop it here through the direct links and product listings or head over to view the full collection on this page.

A Preppy Chinoiserie Christmas Tree Idea

For my Christmas tree in the den, I decided to embrace a classic Christmas color scheme but bring in loads of cobalt blue to fit with the decor of the room. I wanted the tree to feel preppy with layers of plaid and a bit whimsical. Blue and white gingham ribbon streamers swoop down the tree, while a mixture of festive ornaments enhance the theme.

The first layer of my tree is always about beautiful ribbon usually from D. Stevens! This year I choose a bold blue and white gingham and a traditional tartan looking plaid. Then I mixed in seasonal florals like these red berry and holly picks and a gorgeous red velvet magnolia. Floral picks help fill out a basic faux tree and bring in dimension.

Do you spy my Buddy the Elf? This is one of my favorite Annalee Christmas figures I've collected over the years. He always pops up somewhere in my holiday decor, but this year I gave him a starring roll on the tree! My mother collected Annalees and always had them scattered around the den, so I love to bring out one or two for that sweet Christmas nostalgia.

The ornaments play on my preppy Chinoiserie Christmas theme with large plaid balls, blue and white ginger jars, gold spindles, and these magical flickering white lanterns (an Amazon find - battery powered and on a timer). I also mixed in some vintage finds like these quilted Santas, brass horns, and some colorful glass baubles.

A snowy white owl, that S. named Hedwig, perches atop the tree with a blue and white gingham bow and a riot of red berry stems.

A Holiday Bar Cart

I always enjoy decorating my navy rattan bar cart for the holidays. This year I tried to keep it simple, and if we have guests over, I will set it up as a Bourbon bar. On the top a vintage brass tray holds sassy fox hunt high balls and a hobnail glass set. The bottom features a pair of gorgeous blue and white Chinese porcelains and a festive wrapped present. I have more of the small jars in the shop here.

A Preppy Christmas Garland on the Mantel

For the mantel this year, I tried a new technique using chicken wire, and I'm thrilled with how it turned out! I'll be sharing a tutorial in a separate post in the coming weeks. This sculptural style garland features faux mixed evergreen branches with red and white berries and three different ribbons: a reindeer postage stamp, Nutcracker plaid, and blue and white gingham.

My Fitz & Floyd winter wonderland reindeer anchors the mantel decor and plays up the Christmas look. It feels so festive!

I had to sneak in a photo of me in front of this mantel and show y'all my growing baby bump!

Twinkle lights add that merry glow to the sculptural garland, and the mix of these three ribbons feels playful and unexpected. More Preppy Chinoiserie Touches

The focal points of our den are always the Christmas tree and mantel, but I love to add little holiday touches that fit my theme elsewhere in the room too!

Now it's time to kick back with some hot tea and bask in the glow of the twinkle lights! Henry agrees!
