LOL this post title truly sounds like there is a rock band about to play on my family room mantel...don't you agree? Witchy Jane & The Jack-O'-Lanterns...on stage at Dogwood House October 31st! Hahahaha...

Seriously though this is how I've been thinking about this Halloween mantel since I put it together last week. Staffordshire spaniels are always classic decor, but they can be fun too! Add a jaunty witch hat and velvet bow, and you've got a sassy witchy spaniel like Jane ready for Halloween.

For the past couple of years, I haven't been much in the mood for Halloween, but this year I decided I would get festive for October and decorate my family room mantel. Ever since I lit up the jack-o'-lanterns I've been feeling spooky, in the mood for candy corn, and watching Harry Potter on repeat! It's amazing what a few decorations can do for your mood!

Now you'll never find me embracing scary Halloween. I'm not one to watch Texas Chainsaw Massacre (ok once in high school and I was coerced) or tour haunted houses, but I'm all for a little spooky fantasy (give me Practical Magic and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow"). So my Halloween decor on the mantel is festive and fun and definitely PG!

Here's a closer look...

I made Jane's hat out of orange construction paper, and this is a good tutorial here. The fall florals in the blue and white temple jars were stems I already had from years past. I combined orange lantern stems with berries, yellow poppies, and fall leaves.

The "Happy Halloween" banner was pre-made from Martha Stewart Crafts. Here is a fun one that says "Trick or Treat"!

And pretty much everything else was thrifted. The stacked jack-o'-lanterns are foam and they came with a plug in light bulb in the bottom that I removed, so there wouldn't be any dangling cords. Here is one on eBay, and here is a modern version.

To light up my Halloween mantel I used a string of plugin fairy lights instead. I think they really had that magic touch and look so festive in the evenings.
