5 Priorities to Decorate Your Bedroom with Style & Comfort:
No. 1 Choose a color scheme and/or theme that feels relaxing and serene to you!
In my opinion the first priority to decorating your primary bedroom is to make it a serene retreat where you can unwind and feel relaxed for a good night’s sleep. Choose colors for your walls, bedding, and other furnishings that calm you. For me that color combo is pale blue and deep green. It is a duo straight from nature: sky and forest, and I love how peaceful it feels to me.
No. 2 Indulge in high comfort fabrics and furnishings!
Think soft cottons, velvet, wools, down and silk. Natural materials are always better whenever possible!
No. 3 Invest in quality window treatments for beauty, light blocking, and warmth!
This is of very high priority if light disturbs your sleep or you need to shield your windows for privacy. Curtains can also add lovely depth and pattern to a room and provide extra warmth when closed during winter months.
No. 4 Choose furniture that offers storage and organization!
A cluttered bedroom with no where to put anything is a huge obstacle to creating a serene retreat, so make organization and storage a priority. I love to use antique furniture that has beautiful classic lines and offers unique storage like this antique Hepplewhite secretary. In it I’m storing all my jewelry, scarves, belts, and small handbags.
No. 5 Add personal touches that delight you!
Creating a serene retreat in the bedroom doesn’t mean a minimalist haven — at least not for me. You can incorporate delightful decor and mementos to surround yourself with patterns, art, objects, and memories that bring you joy.
