A Bountiful Fruit & Chintz Thanksgiving Tablescape

For my recent design tent at the Clinch River Antiques Festival (see it here) I set the table for Thanksgiving in an elegant style using fruit and flowers as the inspiration. The tablescape features layers of vibrant color, rustic texture, elegant china including Royal Worcester and Limoges as well as a bountiful centerpiece surtout de table overflowing with pretty flowers and harvest fruit.

For one of my talks at the festival I demonstrated how to transform this Thanksgiving tablescape for Christmas using the same tablecloth and the same bone china - Delecta from Royal Worcester. The Christmas version is more refined and glitzy with silver, brass, and a big floral centerpiece.

Royal Worcester Delecta bone china featuring fruit and floral hand painted designs

The entire inspiration for my tent and tablescape came from this gorgeous hand painted bone china pattern called Delecta. I fell in love with the charming berries and plum, the sweet insects buzzing around, and the little floral details. This is a wonderful season-less pattern, but it feels particularly lavish for the autumnal harvest and holiday occasions. I love it against this vibrant red chintz table topper!

Delecta was made in the mid-20th century in homage to an early pattern by Royal Worcester -- perhaps the Duke of Gloucester fruit and floral design. RW is the oldest porcelain manufactory in England founded 1751 still in existence today. By the late 1700s the Worcester factory was producing services for the who's who of the British aristocracy and received the Royal Warrant in 1789 from King George III. For the Thanksgiving version I used more rustic textures like the rattan chargers and bamboo flatware paired with rich autumnal hues from the red chintz tablecloth to the luminous amber Murano goblets. The fruit and floral centerpiece in this ironstone compote and surtout de table echo those colors and add to the the harvest theme of the tablescape.

Playful fox place cards and unique stick candles bring some whimsy to the table, while beautiful monogramed napkins from JKafie Studios with leaf embroidery amp up the elegance. Gold fern napkin rings from Michaud wrap the napkins and add to the floral theme.

Here's a closer look at the Christmas table version...

To transition this table for Christmas I swapped out the rattan chargers for silver and brass ones; used silver flatware instead of bamboo; and chose a napkin with poinsettia and pinecone embroidery. I also opted for a lavish floral centerpiece of ranunculus, peonies, and roses in red, white, and pink flanked by two elegant brass candlesticks with tapered white candles and red velvet bows.

My goal for the Christmas version was more glitz, glamour, and opulence.
