I cannot believe in over 10 years of blogging I have never decorated a Valentine's Day mantel and shared it! Wow! What a missed opportunity because a red and pink explosion of hearts and flowers on the mantel is totally my jam.

Any chance to spread a little love and happiness in my home decor is definitely a good idea! Creating my Valentine's mantel took less than an hour and made use of my pine garland still up for Christmas. How sweet is that?

The paper heart doilies are darling strung on pink and white baker's twine and hung on the pine and draped across the mirror. These triple sided hearts were easily made in about 15 minutes with some Mod Podge and for less than $6.

Watch this little video to see how easily they go together:

How to Make the Paper Heart Doily Garland

You'll need:

Paper heart doilies

Pink and white baker's twine

Mod Podge

Hole punch

Paint brush

Steps:

No.1 Figure out how many triple sided hearts you need for the length of your garland. Multiply that number by 3. You'll need 3 paper hearts for each triple sided heart.

No. 2 Fold each paper heart in half with the back side out. In other words, you are folding the front of the heart (the right side) in together, so you can put glue on the back side.

No. 3 Layout 3 paper heart doilies. Brush glue on the right half of one and then stick it to the left half of another.

No. 4 Brush glue on both sides of the third paper doily then stick it to the 2 halves you just glued together.

No. 5 Allow each heart to dry. It should only take about 5 minutes. Then punch a hole in 2 of the sides of the heart near the top.

No. 6 Thread the baker's twine through the holes of each heart.

My Valentine's Day Mantel

Doesn't the paper heart doily garland look charming? I love how it pops against the green pine and gingham ribbon.

Instead of bows at the 3 points I opted to use white envelopes sealed with conversation heart stickers. Cute, right?

On top of the mantel, my Staffordshire pups got a jaunty gingham bow. Yes, you recognize that ribbon from my Christmas decor! Then I filled these Old Paris urns with blossoming bouquets of ranunculus and peonies in pink and white.

I hope my explosion of hearts and flowers in pink and red has inspired you to decorate your own mantel this February.

This is absolutely stunning! While our home doesn’t have a fireplace mantel, I can imagine creating a similar look on our stairway or console table.

Thanks! Yes, that’s a great idea. It would also work around a mirror or over your kitchen window.
