Anna Elizabeth Hardy (American 1839 -1934) oil on board painting. The vertical painting depicts a composition with mallow flowers. Signed lower left. Anna Eliza Hardy was a painter prominent in a 19th-century school of painters in Bangor, Maine. She was the daughter and collaborator of Jeremiah Pearson Hardy, a prominent portrait painter himself. Hardy was especially known for her floral still life paintings. She briefly studied in Paris with still life specialist Georges Jeannin and also ventured to the New Hampshire to study with Abbott Handerson Thayer. She taught art and guided other female painters, including Charlotte Baldwin, Grace Hemenway, Florence Jennison. Size: Frame 28 x 20 in. Image 24 x 15 1/2 in. Academy Board F.W.
