Antique Blue Canton Plates

Price range: $24.00 through $49.00

A popular Chinese export pattern named after the city Canton (Guangzhou) from which it was exported. This ready-made pattern usually served as ballast on the cargo ships and was loaded first before the more precious commodity of tea because it could withstand salt water. Then sold directly from the ship once it reached American ports.

All with underglaze blue decoration, featuring rain and cloud or straight line borders, large pagoda on right, and bridge in foreground.
