Classic Christmas Table Decor

Inspiring magic with classic Christmas table decor and a delicious meal!

Making Christmas magic with classic Christmas table decor - setting the table in elegant red, green, and white with chintz, Johnson Bros, plaid, and Royal Worcester

Where and when does Christmas magic happen -- that twinkle of joy that fills your heart with gladness and light?

More often than not I think it is in little quiet moments that sneak up on us:

It's a happy little plate stack with whimsical Christmas motifs that remind you of your grandmother.

It's that first warm embrace from a relative you haven't seen in months.

It's hanging the stocking on the mantel and remembering the wonderful treats you discovered there on Christmas mornings past.

It's in the impromptu ice skating party or trip around the block to view the lights.

It's catching a glimpse of twinkle lights out of the corner of your eye.

It's rolling out the cookie dough and getting the perfect cut with the cookie cutter.

It's watching the curiosity and excitement bubble up in your child's eyes.

It's that peaceful breath after a good meal when everyone rests back in contentment and no one wants to move from the table scattered with the debris of a delicious meal.

----------

Christmas magic is often spontaneous. Rarely ostentatious.

And it grows from thoughtful kind acts. It relies on nostalgia and tradition. It feels fleeting and perfectly imperfect.

So as you plan your menu, shop for groceries, polish your silver, and set the table remember:

While there is beauty in each glass and plate, it is how your table

-- a table set with thought and care --

can inspire a moment of gladness and light

--a moment of Christmas magic--

that is beautiful!

A look at how I set

the table with

classic Christmas

table decor...

This is an elegant look for your Christmas table that feels fresh but nostalgic. The warm vibrant red draws you in and the charming details on the playful "12 Days of Christmas" dishes make you smile. Sophisticated florals add that feminine touch, while the twirling ivy vines bring an organic, flowing feel.

Grab a cup of cocoa and let's set the table!

Christmas Table Details

This elegant red Christmas table starts with a chintz tablecloth you've seen several times on P&P lately. I love the vibrancy and classic feel of the florals. It just lends itself so beautifully to special holiday tables.

The Christmas table settings feature:

The Christmas Table Centerpiece

I wanted to feature a Christmas centerpiece that could be enjoyed all season long on this holiday table. Despite my tussle with the ivy vines, this is a very easy centerpiece to put together. All you need is a pretty cachepot (a pair of these white and gilt monteiths are available in the shop), two mini poinsettia, two ferns, and about 8-10 fresh ivy vines.

The fresh ivy really gives this centerpiece and tablescape an organic, effortless elegance. As you can tell from the video the ivy does take some twisting, turning, and well...force to get it to cooperate. So don't try to arrange it right before your dinner party starts, instead fix it the day before or morning of. Usually, mine looks good for about 3-4 days.
