18th century Derby fluted lozenge dish with cobalt rim aka “Smith’s Blue” border and gilt grapes and foliage.

Hand painted florals grace the well and sides possibly by Edward Withers (worked at Derby in the 1770s and 80s).

Marked with crown over D in blue.

Size: 12.25″L x 10″W. Nottingham Road Factory.

The blue pigment is known as Smith’s blue after Constantine Smith, a china painter and gilder who worked at Derby in the mid-late eighteenth century.
