Description

This red, blue, yellow, and green transferware pattern has an interesting history. Originally, created by Davenport, Spode bought the pattern in the 1830’s and it was called the Rhine as it depicts scenes from the river. During WWII Spode changed the name to Severn to disassociate the pattern from its connection to Germany. After the war it was reverted back to Rhine. So there is a brief window when these plates were made with the Severn name in the mark: 1939-1947.

Size: 10.5”D.

Condition notes: some crazing with staining to center wells; no chips or cracks.
