No. 1 Batch Prep Breakfast Smoothies in Freezer Packs
Do your prep work ahead of time. Every other weekend I buy a bunch of fruits and my greens of choice (kale and spinach) and set in to chopping and dicing. Then I create my breakfast smoothie mixes, putting the fruits and greens in a ziplock freezer baggie. In the pack above you can see it is a mix of blueberries, mango, spinach, kale, and cucumber. Be sure to squeeze all the air out and make the pack flat for easier storage in your freezer.
In the morning, all I have to do is grab my smoothie freezer pack, break it up just a little bit, dump it in to the blender, add my liquid (almond milk) and my protein powder, and hit blend! Each of my packs makes 2 smoothies. I pour them up in a travel mug, and S. and I are good to go!
No. 2 Add a Tasty Protein Powder
This is the secret to making your breakfast smoothie filling. There are tons of choices out there, and I recommend experimenting with a few to find one that both tastes good and satisfies your hunger. You should pay attention to the type of protein; how much sugar it contains; and the other vitamins or fiber content it.
JuicePlus Complete is my protein powder of choice. It has 13 g. of protein developed from soy as well as 8 g. of fiber and a host of other nutrients, including B12, calcium, and vitamin D. It is gluten-free, non-dairy, and vegan. It is the first protein powder I’ve tried that doesn’t leave a weird aftertaste in my mouth. I actually like how it tastes.
I also use the JuicePlus vitamins. Read more about those here.
No. 3 Use a Powerful Blender
When I started experimenting with breakfast smoothies, S. and I didn’t have a really good blender. In fact, I was trying to make them with my food processor! Haha…it was not easy or quick, and clean up was very annoying. For our 4 year wedding anniversary, I decided to gift us with a powerful blender – the Ninja. The 4th year is fruit you know, and well I figured a blender that processes fruit was close enough!
Let me just say there is no comparison to making a smoothie in a Ninja. This blender tackles frozen fruits and veggies like they were pudding! Seriously! I literally just push the IQ Pro Blend program and in about 50 seconds I have the perfectly blended breakfast smoothie! Yum! It’s amazing really. It did take me a while to find the Ninja blender though, but after being pointed in the direction of these reviews on Kitchen Habit, I knew that this brand was the perfect one for us. And I think it’s fair to say that it hasn’t disappointed yet.
Now that you know my 3 secrets to make breakfast smoothies fast, easy, filling, and tasty are you ready to get blending? I hope so! Honestly, this is one of the best healthy living steps I’ve made recently!
